I studied traditional and contemporary embroidery and design before replacing textile with wood, metal and canvas. Today I hardly use brushes preferring anything that comes to hand, including my hands. My work is very much a form of expression, influenced by the artistic movement of the mid 20th Century which comprised of diverse styles and techniques with the emphasis on the artists freedom to convey attitudes and emotion through non traditional and non representation means.
My minimalist paintings although abstract in appearance contain a hidden depth of marks and layers which reveal a jewel like burnished effect as hints of colour are exposed. The content within my signature shape veers from the energy and exuberance of mark making to the quiet contemplation of a straight line. The lively and the contemplative.
